JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead a team of Scientists working on developing coatings technology platforms aimed towards manufacturing new building products. Provide engineering support to a research team tasked with building products research and development and to investigate and implement innovative means of manufacturing in the areas of alternate forming process, alternate cutting process, improved process design and improved coating design and manufacturing. Research on building products (aspects of strength, performance and application), design of new pilot line equipment, fabrication and running of pilot plants; ranging from benchtop test rigs to full-scale factory trials.

Liaise with factory production management from James Hardie manufacturing locations, building relationships with technology partners such as Glone, Stiles and Grenzebach, overseeing plant fabrication / modification of equipment and product development testing in the areas of destructive and non-destructive testing.

Lead various platform development projects and teams targeted at improved process consistency, equipment reliability, throughput increase, and platform capability. Incorporate project management duties such as project scope writing, resource management, timelines, reporting progress to business and delivering executive projects. Provide technical support and expertise during design, install, start-up, and preliminary production runs of new materials and processes.

Review design and construction documents to ensure accuracy and correct issues prior to installation. Develop detailed trial plans and coordinate and oversee in-plant trials. Interact with manufacturing plants and R&D to ensure development of viable, achievable processes that can be implemented within specific cost and time restraints. Deliver project results to improve the business as a whole by enhancing durability, quality, new production capacity, efficiency, and/or safety in such a way that the projects are resourced to further the company’s position in the building products industry.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

- Mechanical or process engineering experience
- Project Management
- Process Capability Improvement – Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Process Design / Integration
- Product testing and assessment

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Will accept foreign equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of experience in the job offered or closely related field.
*Experience must be in progressively more responsible positions post baccalaureate.
