Utilizes mechanical/chemical engineering skills to generate new composite building materials using natural, synthetic, or manufactured raw materials through developmental experiment designs, formulation, and testing by: (35%)

- Conducting literature survey/reviews through independent research in order to develop new concepts to develop improved, new, or differentiated products;
- Using Design of Experiment (DoE) to design and conduct experiments in the mechanical or chemical laboratories to test for fiber cement properties. Such properties include, but are not limited to, mechanical strength, durability, and raw material composition. Testing consists of the following:
o Mechanical testing includes a three-point bending test, inter-laminate bonds, cube compression, and impact testing.
o Durability testing includes freeze thaw testing and moisture movement testing.
- Raw material composition testing includes reverse engineering through X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray refraction (XRF), and Loss on Ignition (LOI).
- Conducting research and testing to identify and isolate practical solutions to the known formulation associated with a process problem;
- Working with a team of peers, engineers and scientists, to develop high-performance cement composites that result in the development of new formulations that have evaluated the feasibility of using raw materials and assessed the durability of the potential raw materials or products;
- Effectively conducting data analysis, interpreting the experiments and mechanical tests performed on pilot trial results, and making recommendations based on the results;
- Independently planning, organizing, and performing experimental mechanical/chemical testing on the cement composites samples; and
- Making sound recommendations to management and the business based on solid data and business rationale.

Coordinates and/or participates in pilot and factory trials on new technologies and improved technologies by: (45%)
